The County of Lehigh

Lehigh County's dedication to farmland preservation allowed the land that The Seed Farm and its Steward Farms occupy to remain farmland. Lehigh County also supports The Seed Farm through donated labor from its Parks Department - drilling The Seed Farm's well and constructing its greenhouse.

Penn State Extension

Penn State Extension educators launched the Start Farming Program in 2009, responding to increasing interest in farm start-up businesses from community members. The Program aims to enhance the success of beginning farmers by providing education and hands-on training in: production, marketing, financial management, land acquisition, and other resource acquisition.

The USDA's Risk Management Educational Partnership Program is designed to "help ensure that farmers and ranchers effectively manage their risk through difficult periods, helping to maintain America’s robust food supply and the sustainability of small, limited resource, socially disadvantaged and other traditionally underserved farmers." Lehigh Valley Community Foundation

The Lehigh Valley Community Foundation promotes philanthropy in order to improve the quality of life in the Lehigh Valley. Established in 1967 as the Bethlehem Area Foundation, the Foundation was begun as part of the City's 225th anniversary celebration. Funds remaining from that celebration were used to create a permanent community endowment. Those funds were contributed by schoolchildren, steelworkers, retailers, college professors, homemakers, and business leaders. That community spirit is still at the heart of the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation.

Kiva Zip

Kiva Zip is a pilot program, launched by Kiva, that enables individuals to make direct loans to entrepreneurs in the U.S. and Kenya. Our first endorsed borrower received funding for his loan from 193 lenders in just two days! Partnering with Kiva Zip is another way for The Seed Farm to help new farmers achieve their dreams of successful farm start-up.
