Internships

We are currently accepting applications for a Graphic Design Intern, Development Intern, and Sustainable Agriculture Intern for the 2014 fall semester.

Development Intern

Our Development Intern will be responsible for assisting the Executive Director to plan/coordinate events, research potential funders, and communicate with the community at large. This internship will give the intern valuable, real-world experience in the nuts and bolts of nonprofit work. Tasks could include:

  • Identify and research potential donors, including corporations, foundations, and individuals;
  • Support the planning and execution of special events (e.g. Farm to Table Dinner in October, Scaling Up workshop in October)
  • Assist in creating materials needed for donor solicitation, including letters, electronic presentations, and informational packets;
  • Initiate corporate sponsorship/employee engagement opportunities;
  • Help maintain database with donor and prospect information;
  • Research and write copy for website;
  • Communicate with the community via blog posts and social media;
  • Other tasks as needed and/or projects that align with intern skills.

In addition to these duties, the Development Intern is permitted/ encouraged to participate in farm program activities such as Saturday field walks and harvests, and attending the weekly farmers’ market on Sundays. The Development Intern is also encouraged to introduce new ideas for how our fundraising program could be further developed or expanded. This position is unpaid but can earn academic credit.

Requirements
Qualified applicants will:

  • Possess strong organizational and research skills;
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
  • Exhibit a desire to continuously learn and ask questions;
  • Be computer/online/digital media savvy;
  • Work independently, be self-motivated, and have great attention to detail;
  • Have reliable transportation

Sustainable Agriculture Intern

The Seed Farm is looking for an intern who is enthusiastic about sustainable agriculture, community building, and spending lots of time outside. Our Sustainable Agriculture Intern will work alongside the Farm Manager/ Educator, Assistant Field Manager and apprentices. Our educational farm provides interns with the opportunity to gain experience in farm work (including general field work, farm upkeep, and record keeping for field crops and produce sales) and class/event preparation, as well as coordinating and facilitating group visits to the farm. Tasks could include:

  • Field work: planting, irrigating, cultivating and trellising crops; transplant production in greenhouse
  • Harvest, washing and packing vegetables for Farmers Market and wholesale outlets;
  • Maintenance of perennial gardens;
  • Farm education: preparation for apprentice classes, workshops & classes;
  • Assistance with farm events
  • Community outreach: coordination of volunteers/ development and implementation of volunteer program;
  • Communication with local groups and leading tours of the farm;
  • Occasional shifts at the Emmaus Farmers’ Market on Sundays are a possibility

It is important that the intern understands the physical demands of working on a farm.

Graphic Design Intern

Our Graphic Design Intern will be responsible for assisting the Executive Director with promotional materials to increase community awareness of the organization and other projects related to marketing at The Seed Farm. Tasks could include:

  • Design materials for upcoming events and farm programs
  • Design a website for the organization
  • Design a display for Farmers Market and other Expo opportunities
  • Other tasks as needed and/or projects that align with intern skills
Requirements
Qualified applicants will:
  • Recognize the importance of The Seed Farm's mission and be willing to assume a role in furthering it
  • Be enrolled in, or graduated from, a Graphic Design/Arts or similar degree program
  • Have experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Have samples showcasing strong design and presentation skills
  • Work independently, be self-motivated, and have great attention to detail
  • Have reliable transportation
Internship Time Commitment
Interns will be expected to put in 8-15 hours per week during semester or 25-30 hours during the summer; flexible schedule based on individual’s availability.
